Alewife Count Begins Today!

Heads Up--a computer is the best way to handle the waiver and sign-up.

The River Herring Alewife populations are at an all-time low due to large-scale and unsustainable fishing methods that kill alewife by the millions each year. We need data to prove to the NE Fisheries Management Council (meeting in Mystic April 17) that they need to do something NOW, before it is too late.

We are grateful to those who jumped in with us to help us get the bugs out early--Kevin Job, of course, the fish biologist and alewife hero from CT-DEEP, also the Fedors, and especially Hillary Clifton and the Eco Club from Fitch High School. Of course, we will find more bugs in the system, but we are happy to be learning together, and working together for the world we want to live in.
