We're Looking for a New Treasurer of the Board – Join Us in Protecting the Mystic River Watershed

The Alliance of the Mystic River Watershed is on the lookout for a new Treasurer of the Board—a dedicated and detail-oriented leader with a passion for nonprofit service and environmental stewardship. This is a unique opportunity to be at the financial helm of an organization committed to protecting and restoring one of our region’s most vital natural resources.


What You'll Do as Treasurer

As Treasurer, you’ll serve as the financial officer of the Alliance, working alongside a dedicated board and passionate staff to guide our financial strategy and ensure organizational sustainability. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Board Engagement: Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings.

  • Leadership: Serve on the Executive Committee and chair the Finance Committee.

  • Oversight & Governance: Ensure proper financial management and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, legal requirements, and internal policies.

  • Budgeting: Oversee the development and monitoring of the annual budget in collaboration with staff.

  • Reporting: Keep the board informed of key financial trends and ensure timely filing of required documents, including the IRS Form 990 (due by May 15).

  • Financial Strategy: Translate financial concepts for the board and help drive strategic thinking around short- and long-term financial health.

  • Compliance: Ensure filings with state and federal agencies are current and accurate to maintain 501(c)(3) status.


Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in any or all of the following areas:

  • Nonprofit Financial Leadership: Former or current nonprofit professionals with experience in financial oversight, development, or management.

  • Finance Industry Professionals: CPAs, CFOs, or others with a strong background in financial management or accounting.

  • Board Experience: Those who have served on nonprofit boards, particularly in roles involving governance or finance.


Tools You’ll Have Access To

The incoming Treasurer will have full access to all necessary digital tools and accounts, including:

  • Financial systems and accounts

  • Payroll and purchasing platforms

  • CRM and fundraising platforms

  • Wix (our website), Google Admin Console, Monday.com, and more
