Here's how to be heard
Here's how to be heard

The Committee Agendas are coming out! Lobbying Day is coming up! Written Testimony windows are opening up...and public hearings getting scheduled.

As we posted in our last newsletter, UConn has found alarming levels of pesticides / insecticides in our waterways. To protect pollinators as well as birds and water animals, CT Pesticide Reform is working hard to ban these types of chemicals that cause neurological breakdown. Louise Washer from an allied (Norwalk) Watershed group has shared this information:

CT Pesticide Reform is having a Lobby Day at the capital wed 2/19 at 11AM Room 1B at the Legislative Office Building if you want to help spread the word.

Here is the link to register for the lobby day

And there is a public hearing on the neonics bill HB6916 that we have been working on.  It would be great if your Alliance could submit written testimony and ask your members to as well.

You can do that HERE.

HERE are some talking points to help people with testimony.

HERE is the report out last month from UCONN on neonics in CT waters.  This is a huge water issue!

We are also concerned that the Cookware and plastic chemical lobby has succeeded in posting a bill that would exempt cookware from the PFA "forever chemical" ban. The new forever chemical they are touting is not water-soluble but it is fat-soluble...just the thing for cookware.

For this and all of the bills you would be interested in if you care about our waterways, see Rivers Alliance list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HJh2UMrlDy8qRaVA1dtH0wsANxebdhmNMRpxQpJUJq8/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Written testimony can come through the portal up until 3 the day before a public hearing, which is also the deadline for registering to speak, but of course you can contact your legislators anytime.
